How to Renew Your Passport When in Hong Kong?


Passport renewal in Hong Kong has gotten a lot easier, but a lot longer too, in this pandemic times.
 
To renew your passport, follow these three easy steps as published by the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong Facebook page.
 
Step 1: Book an appointment online at hk.passport.gov.ph
Step 2: Bring the following documents on your appointment date.
1.      Passport
2.      Application Form
3.      Photocopy of passport and visa or HKID for Permanent Residents
4.      Mailing envelope with HK$32 postage stamp
Step 3:  Wait for your passport to be mailed.

FAQ:


1.

Do I need to book an appointment?

 

Yes, you need an appointment. To book online just visit hk.passport.gov.ph.  Do not bother with the drop box.

Online bookings require a working Gmail or Yahoo mail to sign-in.

 

2.

There is no open slot in your appointment calendar.

 

Slots open from time-to-time.  Just refresh the page to see newly opened slots.  Also, there are reports that it is a lot easier to get slots late at night and early in the morning.

 

3.

Where do I get the application form?

 

Online bookings would fill up an application form online.  You will need to print the pdf form on a A4 paper and bring it at your appointment date.

 

4.

Where should I go for my appointment?

 

Appearance for your appointment is at Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong office at 14F United Centre Building, 95 Queensway, Admiralty, Hong Kong.

Exit C1 of Admiralty Station, then turn left on Queensway street.

 

5.

Is there a dress code when appearing for my appointment?

 

It is best to dress appropriately when appearing for your appointment date.  Shirt should have a collar and a sleeve.

 

6.

What pages of my latest passport should I photocopy?

 

Photocopy the first page (where your photo and name appear) and all pages with current and valid visa.

 

7.

What size of envelope should I bring?

 

Any size that could fit your passport should be fine.  However, since this would contain a sensitive document and would travel internationally, it would be prudent to buy a sturdy envelope like a catalog or booklet kraft envelope. Here is a photo for your reference.  The size of this is 6” x 9”.

Where can I buy these envelopes?

 

Any stationery or school supplies store.

Where can I buy postage stamps?

 

Postage stamps are available at a post office near you.  Click here to open the complete lists of postal offices in Hong Kong.

 

10.

How much is the passport renewal fee?

 

Passport renewal fee is HK$ 480.00.

 

11.

Where will I pay the renewal fee?

 

Payment of fee is during your appointment.

 

12.

How long is the processing time of the passport?

 

Processing during appointment varies between 30 mins to 2 hours, depending on the number of booked applicants on the date.

 

13.

Will I get my new passport immediately?

 

No.  The actual creation of your new passport happens in the Philippines.

 

14.

How soon can I renew my passport?

 

You can renew your passport as early as one (1) year before expiration.  To avoid any inconvenience, it is advised that you renew your passport at least five (5) months before your Hong Kong work visa expires and up to eight (8) months before your scheduled travel.

 

15.

I would like to adopt my husband’s surname in my new passport.  What documents do I need?

 

a.

If married in Hong Kong:  Report of Marriage issued by the Philippine Consulate General, and its photocopy.

 

 

If married in the Philippines:   PSA or NSO-issued Marriage Certificate and its photocopy.

 

b.

PSA or NSO-issued Birth Certificate and its photocopy.

 

c.

Amendment fee of HK$ 160, in addition to the renewal fee.

 

16.

I would like to revert to my maiden name in my new passport.  What documents to do I need?

 

a.

PSA or NSO-issued Birth Certificate and its photocopy.

 

b.

For widows:

 

 

i.

PSA or NSO-issued Marriage Certificate and its photocopy.

 

 

ii.

PSA or NSO-issued Death Certificate of the spouse and its photocopy.

 

c.

For annulled marriages:

 

 

i.

PSA or NSO-issued Marriage Certificate with annotations on the annulment, and its photocopy.

 

d.

For divorcees:

 

 

ii.

PSA or NSO-issued Marriage Certificate with annotations that a Philippine Court has recognized the foreign divorce decree, and its photocopy.

 

e.

For divorce among Filipino Muslims:

 

 

i.

Divorce Decree from Shariah Court and its photocopy.

 

 

ii.

Joint Affidavit executed by two Imams who witnessed the divorce declaration.

 

f.

Amendment fee of HK$ 160, in addition to the renewal fee.

 

17.

Passport renewal for minors.  Includes documents needed for replacement of stolen or mutilated passport.

 

For those who would need to renew or replace their minor children’s passport, the best practice is to renew their passport together with yours, as you would also need to present your passport.  In the appointment booking, choose group or family booking.  You can book a group booking for up to 5 persons.

Bring the following documents on the date of your appointment.

 

a.

Report of Birth issued by the Philippine Consulate General, if born in Hong Kong (not Hong Kong birth certificate); PSA or NSO-issued Birth Certificate, if born in the Philippines; or PSA-issued Report of Birth issued by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate General if born in other countries (birth certificate/report of birth is required for first-time applications and applications for replacement of lost/stolen/mutilated passports); and its photocopy.

 

b.

Latest passport and photocopy of first page.

 

c.

Parents’ passports and photocopies of first page.

 

d.

Parents’ PSA-issued Marriage Certificate or Report of Marriage and photocopy. If not married, PSA-issued Birth Certificate of Mother, Affidavit of Illegitimacy, Affidavit of Recognition, and photocopies.

 

e.

Personal appearance of minor accompanied by either parent.

 

f.

Additional requirements for lost passport:

 

 

i.

Two (2) copies of Affidavit of Loss.

 

 

ii.

Original and photocopy of Police Report, HK Identification Card and School ID.

 

 

iii.

Data/biometrics/photo capture will be done after 15 clearing days.
